Perry is the father and the son of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. Her first roles on television were two times for the character Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. Her parents did not allow her to start acting by her parents until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the pressure it would bring. Perry admitted that she wasn't happy in school However, she started acting as a means to meet new individuals during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry started her acting career as an actress in New York after graduation, performing in minor roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry move back to California to work as a stage actress. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. She performed with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 with The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Then in 2017, she appeared as a recurring role on her own ABC film Scandal featuring her father. This year, she was chosen to portray a younger counterpart to Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of Mary Cooper's character. Despite her connection to the family of this character, she received the role through an audition.
